This policy explains how the Pinio Android app ("Pinio", "the app"), made by appalloo ("we", "us"), handles your information. Pinio saves where you parked and helps you get back.
In short
- We don't collect your data. Pinio has no server to send it to and doesn't have Android's internet permission.
- Your spots, notes and photos stay on your device and aren't included in device backups.
- There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no account, and we don't sell your data.
- Some features hand your spot's coordinates to other services, such as your device's address service and your map app. Section 3 explains when.
1. What stays on your device
- Parking spots: coordinates, how accurate they were, when you saved them, and the street address if your device found one.
- Notes you add to a spot.
- Photos you take for a spot. Pinio keeps its own copy in its private storage.
This data isn't included in Android device backups or device-to-device transfers. If you lose your device or uninstall Pinio, it's gone.
2. Permissions
- Location: to save your spot, only when you tap save in the app, on the widget, or on the question Pinio asks when your car disconnects, and to show how far you are from your car while you're using the app. When you save from the widget, a short foreground service gets one location and then stops. Pinio doesn't track you and doesn't use background location.
- Notifications (optional): to confirm a widget save and offer to add a photo, and to ask whether to save your spot when your car disconnects.
- Nearby devices (optional): only if you choose your car in Settings, to list your paired Bluetooth devices and notice when your car disconnects. The name and address of the device you choose stay on your device, and Pinio doesn't scan for other devices.
- Vibration: to confirm a widget save.
Pinio doesn't ask for camera permission. Your device's camera app takes the photo and hands it to Pinio.
3. What other services see
- Google Play services provides your location to Pinio on devices that have it. Google's handling of that is covered by Google's privacy policy.
- Your device's address service: after you save a spot, Pinio asks Android's Geocoder for the nearest street address, passing it the spot's coordinates. Pinio itself makes no network connection, but Android's service usually sends those coordinates over the internet to its provider, which on most devices is Google. That provider's privacy policy applies. Pinio works without an address if the service is missing or can't be reached.
- Map apps: when you tap "Find my car", Pinio sends your car's coordinates to Google Maps to get walking directions, or to the app you've set as the default for map links. "Show on map" sends them to the map app you choose. That app's privacy policy applies.
- Apps you share with: when you tap share, the app you choose receives the address and a map link. Your note and photo aren't included.
- Your camera app receives a temporary place to save the photo you take.
- Google Play: links to rate Pinio or see our other apps open in the Google Play app or your web browser, under Google's privacy policy, and only when you tap them.
4. Deleting your data
In History, you can delete one spot or everything, or turn on auto-delete after 30 or 90 days. Uninstalling Pinio also deletes all of its data.
5. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to reply to you and to provide support. We do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not share your message with anyone. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you and to keep a short support history, and then deleted. They are deleted sooner if you ask.
6. What we do not do
- We do not collect, sell, rent or trade your information.
- We do not show ads or use analytics or the advertising ID.
- We do not track you, in the app or across other apps and websites.
- We do not ask you to create an account.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information. Because Pinio sends us nothing, the only information we may hold is the emails you send us. To use these rights, email us. For data held by Google or another service listed above, contact that service.
8. Children
Pinio isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, because the app doesn't send us any. If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top.
