Effective date: October 4, 2026
This policy explains how the Notio Android app ("Notio", "the app"), made by appalloo ("we", "us"), handles your information.
In short
- Everything you put in Notio (your Notios, notes, lists, contacts, photos, documents, voice notes, drawings, places and events) stays on your device. There is no account and no cloud sync, and we never receive it.
- To keep the app working and improve it, Notio sends us usage statistics, crash reports and technical logs. They are not linked to your name or email and never include the content of your Notios.
- If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply.
- Notio shows no ads, does not use the advertising ID, and we never sell your data.
1. Information that stays on your device
Notio stores your Notios and everything in them in the app's private storage on your phone or tablet. This includes text, checklists, tables, web links, phone numbers, email addresses, places, events, photos, documents, drawings and voice recordings. We cannot see or access this information.
Some features use device permissions. Each one is only used while you use that feature, and the result is saved on your device:
- Camera: to take photos you add to a Notio.
- Microphone: to record voice notes you add to a Notio.
- Location: to save your current position as a place and to show how far you are from your saved places. Your location is used on your device and is not sent to us.
- Notifications: to remind you of events and to show backup progress.
- Contacts, photos and files: Notio uses the system pickers, so it only receives the single contact, photo or file you choose, not your whole address book or gallery. Notio does not request the contacts permission.
Home-screen widgets show information from your Notios. That information is read from your device and stays on it.
2. Backups
If you use Export Backup, Notio creates a password-protected, encrypted (AES) file and saves it where you choose. We never receive your backups. If you save a backup to a cloud service (for example Google Drive), that service's privacy policy applies to the file. Keep your password safe: we cannot recover it or open your backup.
3. Information sent off your device
The following information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) to services that work for us. None of it includes the content of your Notios.
- Usage statistics (Google Firebase Analytics). Which features are used (for example "a Notio was created" or "a widget was added"), app version, device model, Android version, approximate country and a random app-instance identifier. Advertising-ID collection and ad personalization are turned off. We use this to understand which features matter and to improve the app.
- Crash reports (Google Firebase Crashlytics). When the app crashes: a technical report of the error, app version, device model, Android version and a random installation identifier. We use this only to find and fix bugs.
- Technical logs (Loggly by SolarWinds). App events and error messages, app version, trial status and, when you make a purchase, the purchase confirmation identifier from Google Play. We use this to diagnose problems, for example with the free trial or with restoring a purchase.
- Purchases (Google Play Billing). The lifetime purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We receive only whether you have purchased and the purchase identifier needed to confirm it. We never receive your payment details.
- Time check. To check the free-trial period, the app asks Google (google.com) or public time servers (time.google.com, pool.ntp.org) for the current time. These requests contain no personal information beyond the network information every internet request includes.
- Link previews. When you save a web link, the app downloads that web page to show its title and image. The website receives this request just as it would from a web browser.
- Maps (Google Maps). Places are displayed with Google Maps, so Google receives the map area being shown. Google's privacy policy applies to that service.
Like any internet request, these connections reveal your device's IP address to the service receiving them. We do not use IP addresses to identify you.
4. When you contact us
If you use Contact Us in the app (or email us directly), your email app opens with a message to us. To help us answer, the message includes the app version, Android version and device model, which you can see and edit before sending. We receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to reply to you and to provide support. We do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not share your message with anyone. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.
5. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
- We do not show ads or use the advertising ID.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not ask you to create an account.
6. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers listed in section 3 (Google and SolarWinds/Loggly), who process it on our behalf, and only when the law requires us to. These providers have their own privacy policies:
7. How long information is kept
- Your Notios and files stay on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Usage statistics, crash reports and technical logs are kept only for a limited period, according to each provider's retention settings, and are then deleted automatically.
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you and to keep a short support history, and then deleted. They are deleted sooner if you ask.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can delete any Notio, item or file in the app at any time. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your device (backups you saved elsewhere are not affected).
- You can deny or withdraw any permission in Android's settings. Only the feature that needs it stops working.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to its processing. To use these rights, email us. Usage statistics, crash reports and logs are not linked to your name or email, so we may not be able to match them to you, but we will help where we can.
9. Security
Information leaves your device only over encrypted connections. Backups are encrypted with the password you choose. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
10. Children
Notio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
