This policy explains how the Appio Android app ("Appio", "the app"), made by appalloo ("we", "us"), handles your information.
In short
- Appio reads the list of apps on your device and, with your permission, how you use them. This stays on your device. There is no account.
- To suggest categories, Appio sends the package names of apps it doesn't recognize (for example "com.example.weather") to our server, which looks them up on Google Play. This lookup is not linked to you.
- To keep the app working and improve it, Appio sends us usage statistics, crash reports and technical logs. They are not linked to your name or email.
- Appio shows no ads, does not use the advertising ID, and we never sell your data.
1. Information that stays on your device
- Your installed apps. Appio reads the list of apps installed on your device, with their names, icons, sizes, install and update dates, where they were installed from, and the permissions they have, to organize them and show insights.
- Usage access (optional). If you allow "Usage access", Appio reads when each app was last used, your screen time per app and app storage sizes. You can use Appio without it, but those insights won't be available. You can turn it off at any time in Android's settings.
- Your categories and settings. The categories you create, their names, colors, emoji and order, and your widget and app settings.
We cannot see or access this information. Home-screen widgets show information from the app, and it stays on your device.
When you choose to uninstall apps, Appio asks Android to uninstall them, and Android shows its own confirmation. Appio does not remove anything without your confirmation.
2. Information sent off your device
The following information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) to services that work for us.
- Category lookup. Appio downloads a list of known app categories from our website (appalloo.com). For apps not in that list, it sends their package names to our cloud function on Google Cloud (Firebase), which looks up each app's category on Google Play. The request contains only package names, not who you are, and is not linked to you. App categories may be kept in a shared list so they can be suggested faster to everyone.
- Usage statistics (Google Firebase Analytics). Which features are used (for example "apps were organized" or "a widget was added"), app version, device model, Android version, approximate country and a random app-instance identifier. Advertising-ID collection and ad personalization are turned off. We use this to understand which features matter and to improve the app.
- Crash reports (Google Firebase Crashlytics). When the app crashes: a technical report of the error, app version, device model, Android version and a random installation identifier. We use this only to find and fix bugs.
- Technical logs (Loggly by SolarWinds). App events and error messages. We use these to diagnose problems, for example with the free trial or with restoring a purchase.
- Purchases (Google Play Billing). The lifetime purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We receive only whether you have purchased and the purchase identifier needed to confirm it. We never receive your payment details.
- Time check. To check the free-trial period, the app asks Google (google.com), timeapi.io or public time servers (such as time.google.com or pool.ntp.org) for the current time. These requests contain no personal information beyond the network information every internet request includes.
Like any internet request, these connections reveal your device's IP address to the service receiving them. We do not use IP addresses to identify you.
3. When you contact us
If you use Contact Us in the app (or email us directly), your email app opens with a message to us. We receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to reply to you and to provide support. We do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not share your message with anyone. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
- We do not show ads or use the advertising ID.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not ask you to create an account.
5. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers listed in section 2 (Google and SolarWinds/Loggly), who process it on our behalf, and only when the law requires us to. These providers have their own privacy policies:
6. How long information is kept
- Information on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Usage statistics, crash reports and technical logs are kept only for a limited period, according to each provider's retention settings, and are then deleted automatically.
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you and to keep a short support history, and then deleted. They are deleted sooner if you ask.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can turn off Usage access in Android's settings at any time. Only the insights that need it stop working.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on your device.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to its processing. To use these rights, email us. Usage statistics, crash reports and logs are not linked to your name or email, so we may not be able to match them to you, but we will help where we can.
8. Security
Information leaves your device only over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Children
Appio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
